Black Force Domain $9.99 This Brazilian trio's official full-length debut, Black Force Domain came out in 1995, at a time when the first wave of death metal was in the midst of a lull, both popularly and creatively. While not too widely heard at the time, Black Force did help place Krisiun among a new breed of bands -- Cryptopsy, Nile, and Angelcorpse, among them -- who would, over the next few years, breath some new life into the genre by pursuing new extremes in speed, physical stamina, and overall heaviness. For their part, Krisiun is not so important for being innovative -- ultimately, they're really not -- but instead for their completely over-the-top obsession with speed and brutality. True, the material is heavily influenced by Morbid Angel and Slayer, the riffs aren't especially groundbreaking, and the songs show little variety. However, that's basically beside the point. It's the actual execution -- marked by almost inhumanly fast drumming and maniacal guitar work (especially the solos) -- that sets this stuff apart from so much other death metal. This album is not for everyone, but those who are predisposed to the "joys" of this kind of aural punishment will sense in Krisiun a rare commitment to (or again, obsession with) their craft that makes Black Force Domain stand out, even if the sound quality isn't quite as good as on the band's later albums. ~ William York, All Music Guide |

Kentucky's Domain of Power, Greed and Corruption $24.98 Referring to college athletics as amateur sports is as archaic as football’s flying wedge that was outlawed almost a century ago. College athletics are all about multi-million-dollar programs, billion-dollar television contracts, corporate control and cronyism. Power greed and corruption have turned the top athletic programs into money-making machines controlled as much by people outside the program as by university presidents and athletic directors. Few, if any, books written about college athletics closely examine the behind the scenes deal making, how lucrative contracts are awarded and the favored few who benefit. This book reveals how and why sports decisions were made at the University of Kentucky, one of the nation’s top programs, how they were influenced by powerful elements who profited, sometimes by questionable legal and ethical tactics from these actions. Six years of solid academic research stand behind the facts revealed in this book. |

Axiomatic Domain Theory in Categories of Partial Maps (Distinguished Dissertations in Computer Science) $47.98 Axiomatic categorical domain theory is crucial for understanding the meaning of programs and reasoning about them. This book is the first systematic account of the subject and studies mathematical structures suitable for modelling functional programming languages in an axiomatic (i.e. abstract) setting. In particular, the author develops theories of partiality and recursive types and applies them to the study of the metalanguage FPC; for example, enriched categorical models of the FPC are defined. Furthermore, FPC is considered as a programming language with a call-by-value operational semantics and a denotational semantics defined on top of a categorical model. To conclude, for an axiomatisation of absolute non-trivial domain-theoretic models of FPC, operational and denotational semantics are related by means of computational soundness and adequacy results. To make the book reasonably self-contained, the author includes an introduction to enriched category theory. |

God's Domain $18.48 Beautiful graduate student Chesney Barrett, doing environmental research in the Louisiana Atchafalaya Basin, previously helped clandestine government agent Travis Weld locate and destroy a methamphetamines operation in the swamp. Now Weld is back asking her to help rescue brilliant archaeologist David Phillips from leftist guerrillas in the Yucatan Peninsula. Helping David Phillips plunges Chesney into a complex and deadly quest for the sacred site of Viracocha, legendary God over all gods and all peoples of the Americas. To claim the storehouse of knowledge and treasures, they must decipher sacred stone tablets, decode a symbolic map, and locate three ancient Sentinels of Light that point the way to God's Domain. Their search is complicated by an ally who may double-cross them and a ruthless military commander who is determined to seize the treasures. But nothing they have faced compares with what waits for them at God's Domain. What Chesney and David discover could change the world forever. |

The Third Domain $20.98 The Third Domain is the untold story of how the discovery of a new form of lifeâ??first ridiculed, then ignored for the past thirty years by mainstream scientistsâ??is revolutionizing science, industry, and even our search for extraterrestrial life. Classification is a serious issue for science: if you don’t know what you’re looking at, how can you interpret what you see? Starting with Carolus Linnaeus in the 17th century, scientists have long struggled to order and categorize the many forms of life on Earth. But by the early 20th century the tree of life seemed to have stabilized, with two main domains of life at its roots: single-celled and multi-celled organisms. All creatures fit into one of these two groups. Or so we thought. But in 1977, a lone scientist named Carl Woese determined that archaeaâ??biochemically and genetically unique organisms that live and thrive in some of the most inhospitable environments on Earthâ??were a distinct form of life, unlike anything seen on Earth before. This shocking discovery was entirely incompatible with the long-standing classification of life as we know it. But as it turned out, archaea were not life as we know it, and the tree of life had to be uprooted once again. Now, archaea are being hailed as one of the most important scientific revelations of the 20th century. The Third Domain tells the story of their strange potential and investigates their incredible history to provide a riveting account of an astonishing discovery. |

The Banner brothers' rough and tumble ways begin to unravel when they encounter the McQuellans' sweet and joyful spirit of light. In the aftermath of Johnson Banner's heroic, but ill-fated rescue attempts of Emily McQuellan, a glimmer of romance blossoms. The Olden Domain $9.99 Borknagar's first U.S. album, The Olden Domain, is an impressive, highly musical black metal outing; the typical Norwegian blasts of sound are largely eschewed in favor of detailed arrangements employing electric and acoustic guitars, keyboards, piano, and vocals that range from the typical growl to an almost James Hetfield-like quality. Echoes of Metallica and Mercyful Fate permeate the record, but Borknagar is undeniably carving out its own territory. ~ Steve Huey, All Music GuidePerformers: Ivar Bjørnson - Synthesizer; Øystein G. Brun - Guitar; Grim - Drums |

Eminent Domain $14.48 Did You Know? In 1523 Estevan Gomez kidnapped two natives near today's Newport, Rhode Island, and took them to Spain where the king ordered them freed. As the French, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese and English kidnapped natives of the Americas at will, it became standard practice for white explorers in the wildernesses of America to be hailed by knowing bilinguals. The explorers were threatened by some for good reason. William Penn astonished Charles II by asking what right he had to grab land from Americans. "What," blustered the king, "have I not the right of discovery?" "Just suppose," countered the good Quaker, "a canoe full of savages should by accident discover England; would you abdicate or sell?" After the War for Independence, the stage was set for wholesale theft of Indian lands, for all Indians bore the stigma, real or presumed, of being enemy because many in the North and the South, including the Six Nations, aided the British. They were told they had been on the losing side and according to white man's customs must surrender territory as reparation. Eminent Domain documents the theft of North America by deceitful Europeans and their descendants from its native peoples. Had the Indians banded together and hired a smart international lawyer, had there been one, it would have done them no good for there was no international judge or jury such as The World Court and UN Security Council. They were doomed by the white men's arms, diseases and dishonesty to lose everything. |
